Software Project Management and Total Cost Management

Greetings of the Season!
For any vendor in the IT industry, it comes as a challenge to maximize its profits and also maximize the clients' satisfaction. I will just be putting my perspectives on this very much talked about issue of Quality and Cost Management and also Profit maximization in any software company like DUCC Systems.
Software Development undergoes a continuous and never ending cycle. I know I am inviting critics by calling this process a never ending one, but it has been observed by the industry, that we can name some parts of this process as Maintenance and Updation Process, But this also comes under the life of any software.

• The two aspects which has to kept in mind from the view point of a software provider are : Profits and Relationships (with clients, with partners or any).
• The other two aspects which comes to the mind from the customer point of view are the: Quality (Time, efficiency etc.) and the Cost.

The whole process of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) revolves around these paradigms.
Let us look at the second Point first.
              Quality and cost are two characteristics which drive the brand behind software companies. When I be a little more technical these two traits are defined and achieved during the SDLC process. Planning and Monitoring the complete process are the basic backbones for the SDLC. 

• Requirement and Scope Analysis
• Design Plan and Monitoring
• Coding 
• Milestones 
• Unit Testing
• System Testing
• Onsite Testing and Deployment
• Training 
• Maintenance
• Future Scope and Customizations

Quality is defined at the very start of the project. What standards have to be maintained  during the complete SDLC, what are the scheduled conformances, the change scope, the documentation standards, the number of expected lines of codes, the maximum  number of function and libraries expected. I mean to say a complete Project Quality Plan has to be submitted and reviewed by a team of experts before the actual implementation starts. The Quality Plan should not only define the coding standards but also the testing and training standards. The depth of testing gives an edge to the quality of the software. 

Cost obviously plays a very important role in the complete project development phase. Though the customers hardly care about the cost as they just look at the final price. They just go for it or don't go for it. But Cost is very important for any development team.

The few sections which needs to focussed on for the software development is 

• Estimation Accuracy
• Project Quality
• Project Cost Management
• Productivity and 
• Project Management

I will definitely come up with my viewpoints in detail in the later blogs.
